THIS fleet of new wheelchairs is rolling through the shopping streets of Eastleigh.
Thanks to Eastleigh Shopmobility, disabled people have greater access to the town centre shops.
But many of the manual wheelchairs had clocked up so much mileage and needed replacing.
Now Eastleigh Shopmobility has taken delivery of six new manual wheelchairs. But the arrival of the new fleet has put added pressure on space at its Wells Place shop.
Shopmobility co-ordinator Jill Dreyer,
pictured above, says: "We had to weed out those chairs we had been using for a long time.
"We found six chairs that we had been using since the scheme started and decided that we could donate them to the community where they could still find a use, perhaps in surgeries."
Meanwhile, Shopmobility is looking for more volunteers to join its friendly team of helpers.
Shopmobility hires out wheelchairs and electric scooters to people with mobility problems.
Volunteers normally help for a morning or afternoon but occasional whole days may be available. Travel costs are reimbursed.
Budding volunteers can contact the Eastleigh Volunteer Bureau on 023 8090 2400.
