THE Stand Up 4 'Stoke appeal will soon benefit from three major fundraising events.

There's a prestigious tournament at Dummer Golf Club on May 13, where the £80-a-head cost includes a donation to the appeal.

The fee includes a host of extras, including bacon rolls and coffee on arrival, use of the driving range and mid-round refreshments. There are individual prizes for putting and chipping competitions, while teams will play in an 18-hole fourball tournament.

The club are also hoping to get a leading sports personality to play one of the holes with each team. After the golf, there is a special prize-giving dinner.

Meanwhile, senior 'Stoke officials are anticipating a fine response to their other two fundraisers - the St George's Day dinner on Friday, April 22 and the summer ball on Saturday, July 2.

'Stoke chairman Dr Steve Tristram said: "We've planned the events so they will attract a wide variety of people with different interests.

"All three should be splendid occasions and will help us tremendously in our fundraising efforts for the appeal."

The club are trying to raise £250,000 to carry out a host of improvements at Down Grange for the club's benefit and that of the Basingstoke community.

The four-course St George's Day dinner - at £20 per head - takes place at the rugby club from 7pm to midnight.

The annual summer ball promises to be an event to remember. Basingstoke RFC secretary David Crabbe said: "This year it will be an even better event than ever before, with entertainment to suit all."

There will be a four-course dinner, live music, a disco and a casino.

Crabbe said: "This is our major summer event to keep the ball rolling with our fundraising for the new facilities - and we really would welcome support." The cost is £35 per person, but for a table of 10 it will be £325 per table.
