NEW Forest guides will be showing people more than 50 ways to explore the ancient woodland this year.
The Forestry Commission's Rambles with a Ranger programme is bigger than ever and offers everything from gentle three-mile walks to ten-mile hikes over broken terrain.
Volunteer ranger Henry Cole, of Fordingbridge, said: "The walks are right at the heart of Hampshire's contribution to the national Active Woods campaign.
"We will be staging 53 events, all aimed at increasing the health benefits and enjoyment that people get out of taking healthy exercise.
"They will range from relatively short walks over easy-going terrain to fairly energetic treks and will appeal to a huge cross-section of people."
The walks are described in a booklet available from information centres, campsites, major Forest car parks and the Forestry Commission offices at the Queen's House, Lyndhurst.
Anyone wishing to join one of the rambles should book their place by ringing the commission on 023 8028 6840.
