RAF policeman Paul Farmer has been flying high in the world of bobsleigh racing.

Southampton isn't noted for producing crack winter sportsmen but Farmer has proved the exception to the rule by winning the RAF Bobsleigh Championship at Lillehammer in Norway.

Farmer, pictured, who piloted the two-man bob with Gosforth's Anthony Sharpe acting as his brakeman, now has his sights set on next year's Winter Olympics in Turin.

The former Bellemoor schoolboy, who is stationed at RAF Northolt, has been a fast learner down the ice runs.

He has been bobsleighing just about a year yet has already trained with the Olympic squad. It was only six months ago he came through the trials for the RAF event.

Farmer, who flown as guard on the Queen's flight, is the son of former Road Sea footballer Mick Farmer and stepson of Road Sea supremo Peter Price who is now married to his mum Sue.
