Germany's entry as Best Foreign Language Film at this year's Oscars is a powerful account of the dramatic events of April 1945, based on the books Inside Hitler's Bunker by Joachim Fest and Until The Final Hour by Traudl Junge and Melissa Muller.
Hitler (Bruno Ganz) has retreated to a bunker system under the German Chancellery; above ground, the Russian Army is closing a ring around Berlin. Germany's defeat is inevitable but the Fuhrer refuses to surrender.
Gathering together his allies - including his mistress Eva Braun (Juliane Kohler), Minister of the Interior Heinrich Himmler (Ulrich Noethen), his second-in-command, Hermann Fegelein (Thomas Kretschmann), Minister of Propaganda Josef Goebbels (Ulrich Matthes), and Minister of Armaments Albert Speer (Heino Ferch) - Hitler continues to hope for a final victory. When all hope is lost, he makes plans for the final dramatic steps of his downfall.
