A Fareham conservationist is urging residents to spend a penny to save the country millions.
Friends of the Earth member Tony Smale gave a talk on the virtues of compost loos at St Vincent College in Gosport to open Science Week.
Compost toilets can be installed in homes to reduce people flushing loos unnecessarily and draining the country's water supply.
Composters then turn human waste into fertiliser to be used to replenish the garden.
Mr Smale, of Fisher's Hill, Fareham, said: "All the good gardening books recommend using your own waste in the garden, but none say how to do it."
Wendage Pollution Control in Liphook imports the Swedish "biolets" and have sold an estimated 800 in the south, each going for between £700 and £1,400.
