HEADS turned at a Romsey hairdressers when a royal-lookalike dropped in for tea.
Minutes before the Queen's double actress Jeanette Charles arrived at Finesse last Thursday morning, her butler laid out the red carpet hinting that someone very important was about to turn up.
Surprised onlookers gathered and stared in amazement as the bogus 'royal' was helped out of her dark limo by her butler and chauffeur at the Plaza Parade precinct.
Once out of the car, the royal-lookalike made her way to Finesse where she met the owner John Light, staff and clients. John's salon won a competition organised by PG Tips after his wife Andrea put together a little ditty. And the prize included a visit by her 'majesty', a year's supply of PG Tips special blend limited, a set of cutlery and a special and limited edition tea service marking PG Tips 75th birthday.
John said his wife's ditty read: "There is nothing they like more, when having a coiffure than a steaming hot cup of PG Tips."
Asked what happened when the Jeanette Charles walked through the door at the ladies salon, John replied: "Our clients wondered what was going on. She does look like the Queen and she spoke like the Queen.
"She was very talkative. It was all a good laugh and we enjoyed it. The butler arrived very early to prepare for her majesty's visit and made tea. One lady brought her five kids in and they had their photos taken with her. We've been drinking PG Tips at home for years and we use PG Tips tea in the salon's tea machine."
Jeanette Charles first began impersonating the Queen in 1971 and is currently carrying out a number of promotions for PG Tips around Britain.
