TOP table-tennis prospect David McBeath has again been selected to represent England, writes Jeremy Wilson.
The Southampton youngster, who attends Mounbatten School in Romsey, will play for England against Wales and then in a tournament in Luxembourg.
McBeath, who has won four national open tournaments this season, also won at the recent Hampshire Schools' championships, taking the under-13 event for boys. He beat surprise package Jamie Willsher of Hardley School, Southampton, in the final.
In the under-13 girls' event, Becky House - a recent winner of the Newport Cadet Open in Wales - proved too strong for Applemore School's Stephanie Wells.
Jonathon Evans won the under-11 boys' final 3-0 against Joshua Peppiatt from King Edward VI School in Southampton.
In the under-11 girls' event, Bethany Wells of Portchester Community School in Fareham beat Kate Ha of Grove Place School in Nursling.
The under-19 girls' event saw Jenny Dobson of Totton College suffer a surprise loss to Basingstoke's Sue Thomsett.
Mountbatten's John McBeath and Fareham's Ashley Willetts contested the under-16s final, with county number one Willetts winning in four sets.
Mounbatten's Sarah Warwick was an impressive winner of the under-16 girls' event. She recovered from 2-0 down to beat Nicola Dunkasson in the semi-final and then beat favourite Annabelle Morle in the final.
Basingstoke's Alex Garlick, meanwhile, beat Portsmouth's Sajid Jaffar to take the under-19 title.
There was further success for Hampshire when young Matt Ware took the recent Cippenham 2 Star title with some outstanding victories.
