A CONTROVERSIAL scheme to build 14 new homes and two blocks of flats at a site in Dale Road, Southampton is due to go under the spotlight of city planning chiefs next Tuesday.
The project would see nine existing properties in Dale Road knocked down and replaced by three pairs of semi detached houses built in their place.
A further terrace of eight homes would be constructed behind the semi-detached homes - as well as the two blocks, which would contain a total of 56 flats.
Parking would also be provided for the flats on the 1.7 acre site.
Residents objected to the scheme on the grounds that increasing the number of homes using Dale Road would increase the risk of accidents and generate parking problems.
Also, they claim the proposed development is out of keeping with the area and would damage the natural environment of the road in Shirley Warren.
Planning officers are recommending approval of the scheme, which will be heard
by members of the city council's planing and rights of way panel.
