VOLUNTEERS who help sports people have been thanked at a special event hosted by Hampshire County Council in the Great Hall in Winchester.
More than 280 people, nominated by the county's governing bodies of sport and local authorities, attended. The county wanted to hail volunteers who help people train, compete and fulfil their potential.
The guests included administrators and canteen workers, groundsmen and team managers, and voluntary coaches and sport council chairmen.
Vanessa Hobbs, a Hampshire gymnast who competed at the Athens Olympics in 2004, acknowledged the vital role that
volunteers have had throughout her sports career.
