MY first visit to CMW Motorcycles in Chichester came as a surprise. It's far bigger than the outside would suggest, and inside are some of the most exotic bikes in the world - Ducati.
The family-owned and run business was founded by Alan Morgan in 1947. His son Richard now runs the business with the intention of maintaining the same high level of service and conviction. CMW aim to ensure customers enjoy motorcycling as much as they do. CMW pride themselves on being an independent dealer which allows them to stock only those products that meet their high standards. They proudly boast that six of the staff have more than 100 years' experience in the motorcycle trade between them and all staff have either competed in bike sports or are very experienced riders.
CMW are main dealers for Ducati and Suzuki and the showroom holds a tempting selection of both as well as a mix of pre-owned. For anyone wanting to judge the new bikes for themselves a test day is being held this Saturday, subject to status, so call or e-mail to book a place.
The workshop is manned by factory- trained technicians who carry out major overhauls, all types of servicing and repairs as well as fitting the performance parts and accessories on offer at the spares counter.
They don't know this but a friend of mine ground to a halt nearby on his Duke due to a non-standard parts failure. Rather than just rescue him they fitted new parts so he could continue his holiday - good people.
The massive clothing department can fit most people out from head to toe in the very latest motorcycle gear with an extensive selection of sizes. Melanie runs the department and being a dedicated rider she can help and advise on the selection. There's a lot to see so take your time.
As you'd expect at a Duke dealer Ducati Performance clothing is on the rails.
If it's not in stock they will get it fast; have a look at www.ducati.com for the full range.
Naturally the same goes for genuine Suzuki clothing and accessories that can be found on www.suzuki-gb.co.uk/ home.asp.
CMW invite everyone, whatever they ride, to drop in for a chat and a coffee, but remember they are closed on Thursdays and Sundays.
