SOUTHAMPTON'S Olympic hero Peter Waterfield joined celebrations at a Southampton school after an amalgamation project worth more than £2m.
Staff and pupils at Sinclair Primary School in Lordshill have enjoyed a two-day celebration, including a balloon launch and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque.
Southampton City Council decided to amalgamate the former Sinclair Junior and Infant schools in 2003 to form Sinclair Primary and Nursery School.
The move followed a review of the number of excess primary school places in the Lordshill area.
Head teacher Debbie Adamson said: "Sinclair is a great example of how an amalgamation can work for the community and provide a really high quality resource."
