The Welsh National Opera has been amazing audiences in Southampton this week with their productions of Berg's Wozzeck and Verdi's La traviata.

There is still one more opportunity to see Europe's busiest touring opera company at The Mayflower in Southampton, when they perform the traditional double bill of Mascagni's Cavalleria rusticana (Rustic Chivalry) and Leoncavallo's Pagliacci (Clowns) tomorrow night.

With gripping plots involving passion, revenge and tragedy, these classic 19th century Italian operas have extra significance for the WNO, as they were the first ever operas that the company performed nearly 60 years ago.

Cavalleria rusticana transports the audience to a picturesque Sicilian village, and Pagliacci tells the reality-mirroring story of a group of simple circus folk.

For an overwhelming and exhilarating theatrical experience, a trip to The Mayflower tomorrow night would definitely fit the bill.

The operas will be sung in Italian with English subtitles.
