A POORLY baby otter is being nursed back to health on a three times daily diet of trout milkshake.
Staff at the New Forest Otter and Owl Centre having been weaning three-month old Star on the fishy drinks after she became dangerously underweight.
The Asian short-clawed otter was the runt of a litter, which included her healthier brothers Comet and Galaxy, born last December.
Animal manager John Crooks told the Daily Echo: "Star's brothers very quickly grew up and moved on to solid food, but she was struggling. She still doesn't like the taste of fish and her mum is getting bored with her trying to suckle her."
Star was perilously close to death when staff took her away from her family group for two days of intensive care.
She was then returned to her family and is enjoying the special milkshakes as she grows stronger.
Staff will wean her off the milk as she gets more used to the solid part of the drink.
Visitors can visit Star and all the other otters at the centre in Deerleap Lane, Longdown near Ashurst.
