A small but dedicated squad of Fareham Nomads 'Masters swimmers' competed at the Basingstoke meet.

But Jo Corben, Tony Corben, Mark Franklin and club newcomer Gail Henry still won 19 individual and two team medals.

Such was their standard that the fab four gained fourth place overall out of 21 - and many other clubs had far bigger squads.

Jo Corben, 34, cleaned up in her age group, winning five golds, while Henry, competing in the 30-34 age group, won four golds and one silver.

Franklin and Tony Corben, competing in the C and D Age Groups respectively, won four golds and one silver and one gold, two silver and a bronze respectively.

In the two relay events (combined age 120 years and over), they won gold in both the medley and freestyle events, setting a new medley record and just failing by less than 0.5 of a second to do the same in the freestyle.

Fareham also sent a small squad to The Quays for the final round of the Hampshire County Championships.

Jo Corben claimed silver in both the 100m and 200m backstroke, recording 1min.06.72 and 2.21.44 respectively.

In both races she was held off for top spot by 17-year-old Louise Cox (Portsmouth Northsea).

OJ Wright, 13, claimed three bronze and a silver in the Junior category. He also made the open age group finals of the 100m and 200m breaststroke.

His time of 2.38.7 was a massive eight-second improvement and only just outside the 14-year-old national qualifying time.

Dan Hughes, 14, and Dan Crook both achieved national qualification.

Hughes produced a great swim in the 1,500m freestyle, improving his personal best by more than 30 seconds to record 17.21.04. A 4.21.00 gained his qualification in the 400m.

Men's club captain Crook gained qualification in the youth championships with two pbs in the 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle. He also won bronze in 100m butterfly.
