On a warm spring-like day in the New Forest, Liss came away empty-handed from league leaders Lymington after an up and down display.

In the first period, Liss - by their own admission - played much like the local equine wildlife and were lucky to keep the deficit to one goal. Lymington bossed the game with ex-pro John Bailey pulling the midfield strings and making good use of the home side's pace.

That led to the opening goal after twenty minutes, Liss failing to track a run from the right, and Joe Hughes was beaten by Steve Jenkin from close range.

Hughes had to be alert twice more to keep Town at bay but, as the half progressed, Liss did muster a couple of chances. However, both Andy Neal and Steve Harding fired wide.

The second half was a much better contest, with Liss causing mild panic among the home support desperate to see their side gain valuable points towards the title. Athletic repeatedly won the ball, but failed to create many clear-cut chances. Micky Barrow fizzed a shot wide and there were a few goalmouth scrambles but Liss couldn't break through.

As they threw caution to the wind, gaps appeared at the back and only a combination of poor finishing and a couple of Hughes saves kept it at 1-0.
