A HAMPSHIRE recycling business has gone even greener, thanks to the loan of a battery-powered van.
Hampshire County Council has handed over the special van to Bishop's Waltham-based Dove Recycling as part of a special project co-financed by the EU.
Council bosses have a fleet of six alternative fuel vehicles which can be loaned out for several weeks at a time under the MIRACLES project.
environment Cabinet councillor Keith Estlin said: "There's a common misconception that alternative fuel vehicles are difficult to drive or refuel, but that simply isn't the case.
"We all need to work in a more sustainable manner, and local businesses are well placed to lead the way. I'm very pleased to see Dove Recycling taking the message to heart."
Dove spokesman John Cauchi said the van would be used for recycling collections in Winchester city centre, and added: "We were really keen to trial the electric van because of the environmental benefits it offers."
Businesses can arrange a free month-long trial by calling Frankie Dunckley at Hampshire County Council on 01962 847474.
