SAINTS fans are welcoming the likely arrival of Sir Clive Woodward - as long as Harry Redknapp is happy.

Redknapp quit Pompey following the arrival of Velimir Zajec last November and there was concern that the Saints manager might be unhappy at Woodward's involvement with Saints.

"We are all aware of what happened with Portsmouth," said Nick Illingsworth, spokesman for the True Saints Association.

"If it is just working with the youth team, then that's fine.

"But I just wish they would be clear about what is going on and say if Sir Clive Woodward is definitely coming and what he will be doing.

"The last thing we want at the moment is any uncertainty that might disrupt the players."

Saints yesterday stressed that attention should be focussed on the remaining eight league games and not speculation surrounding Woodward, while Redknapp has said he believes the former England rugby union coach has plenty to offer the game of football.

"The form is improving and it looks as if we have turned the corner," added Illingsworth.

"We know we are in this position because of all the chopping and changing of managers and coaches.

"The key thing is that there should only be one focus for the rest of the season and that is staying up.

"We can't afford any distractions - we need stability and the timing of this is not ideal.

"It would be better if the club now just announced exactly what role they have planned for Sir Clive."
