Their meeting - which is usually the first Monday of the month - was postponed due to the kitchen refurbishment.

NWR: Gill Fearon said: "As this year is NWR's 45th (sapphire) birthday, we had a blue evening and discovered that sapphires are not always blue.

"We talked about Bluebeard, blueberries, bluebells, blue moon, Blue Nile, blue sharks and whales, blues music and the Swinging Blue Jeans.

"We finished the evening with coffee and Blue Riband biscuits!"

PARISH council: The clerk reports the following from the last meeting: "The parish council will be purchasing six new traffic cones to control parking during busy meetings at the village hall.

"Lord of the manor approval is awaited before progress can be made on the Centenary Pavilion and developers' contributions have been offered for the new meeting room within the pavilion, although the money must be spent by March 2006.

"There are plans to make improvements to the BMX track.

"Traffic-calming planters along Reading Road should be in place by the end of March. Some of the Calor prize money will be spent on plants to fill them.

"The parish council also agreed to purchase two new benches to be placed in the area of the football pitches."
