OPERATION Comfort: As you walk through the village these days, you may be aware of the number of policemen walking, cycling and driving the beat.

Last Saturday, there were 20 - including two undercover teams - patrolling in Hook from 8am to 10pm.

This is all part of a new scheme called Operation Comfort, designed to reduce the fear of crime in the area.

Although Hook has a very low crime rate, it is nice to know that the old-fashioned bobby - and a few modern ones - are out and about on the streets, keeping an eye on things for us.

HOOK Local History Group: Is meeting on Monday for a talk by Trevor Hart.

This is a change from the advertised talk on HMS Victory. Instead, Trevor will guide you through the history of a church and community over the last 1,000 years, based on St Mary's Church in Upton Grey.

The talk starts at 8pm at St John's Church.

All are welcome and entrance is £3 for visitors.
