SUPERMARKET chain, Aldi, is in negotiations with Winchester Conservative Club over a land-swap deal.
If the deal goes ahead, it would mean the club relocating to Chimneys, in Stockbridge Road, Weeke, while the German supermarket chain, which already has stores in Romsey and Southampton, would apply to redevelop the Highfield Lodge site in Worthy Lane, which is currently home to the 500-membership club.
The deal would please campaigners who have battled to save the Chimneys site from being developed as housing since the pub shut last year.
Richard Williams, from Aldi, confirmed the two are in talks over the swap.
