DAVE Wakefield's third Bashley goal in the space of five days so nearly carried the Foresters to victory at Dulwich Hamlet.
But Geoff Butler's men were pegged back to 1-1 by Paul Scott two minutes from time and then needed a late goalline clearance from Paul Gazzard to ward off defeat.
If they come home empty-handed it would have a travesty, according to manager Geoff Butler, who said: "8-2 to us would have been a fair result. Dulwich are a team of giants, but we were better than they were and created a lot of chances.
"Dave Wakefield's taken a ball over the top and tried to lob the keeper, who just got his fingertips to it and a fella's got back to clear off the line.
"We also had a stone wall penalty when Chris Knowles was upended, but the ref played the advantage and Mo (Mamadouba Toure) put it over.
"We had some decent chances in the second half too but towards the end the young lads started doing some silly things and we got a bit casual. They've hoofed in an equaliser which could have gone anywhere and then David Elm's come for a ball and not got it and Paul (Gazzard) has got back to hook it off the line."
Wakefield's goal was a spectacular 36th-minute scissor-kick from Andy Hough's lay-off.
Fleet Town got the backlash of Tooting & Mitcham's 2-0 defeat at Bashley in midweek by being whipped 6-1 at Imperial Fields.
David Ocquaye's goal was scant consolation for the north Hampshire club who trailed 4-0 at half-time.
