A SMALL Fareham Nomads Swimming Club contingent competed in the final round of the Hampshire County Swimming Championships at the Quays in Southampton.
Both the elder and younger members of the groups acquitted themselves extremely well, with 34-year-old Joanna Corben showing many of her younger competitors a clean pair of heels.
She claimed silver medals in 100m and 200m backstroke in 1.06.72 and 2.21.44, held off in both races by 17-year-old Louise Cox of Portsmouth Northsea.
At the younger end of the group, 13-year-old OJ Wright swam well to claim three bronze medals and one silver. He also made the open age group finals of the 100m and 200m breaststroke in 2.38.7, a massive eight-second improvement and only just outside the 14-year-old national qualifying time.
National qualification was achieved by Dan Hughes and Dan Crook. Hughes, 14, staked his place at the nationals with a great swim in the 1500m freestyle, improving by more than 30 seconds to record 17.21.04, and a 4.21.00 gained his qualification in the 400m event.
Men's club captain Dan Crook led by example, gaining qualification in the youth championships with two personal best times in the 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle. He also won bronze in the 100m butterfly.
