THREE Andover teenagers had a lucky escape when the car they were travelling in was struck by a hit-and-run driver.

Terry Anderson, aged 17, was left 'in complete shock' when a trip to pick up his brother and a friend resulted in his car being written off on Friday.

It's believed a white Ford Transit van turning off the hundred-acre roundabout towards Weyhill Road lost control and careered into Terry's blue Ford Fiesta car on the other side of the road.

Swerving to avoid the van, Terry's car was forced onto the verge of the road - stopping just inches away from a lamppost.

Terry, his brother Nathan, aged 15, and friend Craig Bates, also 15, watched the van immediately leave the scene. Police are now appealing for witnesses into the incident which took place at around 11pm.

Terry's mum Mary-Jane Anderson rushed to the scene after staff at the nearby Shell Garage rang her. "I was shaking like a leaf and could see the boys standing there in shock - there was blood everywhere," she said.

Terry was taken to the Royal County Hampshire Hospital in Winchester suffering from whiplash and facial cuts.

Craig was also taken to hospital, where he was treated with stitches for cuts to the head. Nathan, who was shaken after the accident, was allowed home.

Peter Symonds College student Terry saved up to buy his first car after working regular shifts at the Black Swan Inn in Monxton.
