TALENTED young Winchester musicians have been showing off trophies won at music festivals across Hampshire.

Pupils at Kings School brought home a clutch of silverware from competitions in Southampton and Basingstoke.

Among the winners were Christopher McKay, who scooped the Wessex trophy for the most promising brass player under 12, Matthew Kibble was honoured for being an outstanding competitor in the brass section.

Avril Freemantle was also rewarded for her performance in the under-18 solo string performance and Gavin Kibble won the festival plate for his string concerto.

The Kings School String Trio also won a cup for chamber music.

Success continued in the Basingstoke Festival with Amy Williamson collecting three trophies for her singing.

They are all part of the school orchestra that will be playing a spring concert in the school hall on Monday evening.

Meanwhile Kings' pupils with a talent for rock music will be performing at the Tower Arts Centre on April 25.
