Sydenhams Wessex League, Division 2 - Stockbridge 2, Alresford Town 0

Two goals in the opening 33 minutes settled this derby and put Stockbridge three points clear of their rivals.

To compound Alresford's misery, Danny Kyle fractured his jaw and will now miss the remainder of the season.

Stocks got their noses in front after 12 minutes when Dave Witcher could only parry Ryan Boare's shot and Paul Copping scored.

Alresford's injury troubles began when Martin Shephardson hobbled off - but worse was to follow in the second half.

Ten minutes 'before the break they fell further behind.

Boare was again the provider, Joel McCormack heading Stocks' second.

Alresford must have realised it wasn't to be their day when Kyle accidentally collided with Stockbridge midfielder Simon Poultney and was taken to hospital with a broken jaw.

Stockbridge lost their way in the second half, and Alresford's Gary Frost was denied by Alan Ralph's agility.

Alresford were destined not to score, with Foreman and Dean Cole also going close.

Alresford close against Fleet

Alresford came within 15 minutes of the Basingstoke Senior Cup final in a close semi-final against Fleet Town, from Ryman Division One, at Arlebury Park on Tuesday night.

Alresford took the lead after only 10 minutes when a free kick from the left found its way through a crowded penalty area to Mark Sherwin at the far post, and he fired the ball into the roof of the net.

Chances were created by both sides, but there was no further scoring in the first half.

Although the home side were under pressure at the start of the second period Fleet were unable to equalise. Indeed, chances fell to Dean Cole and Frost to increase Alresford's lead, but the former shot wide and the keeper made a good save when Frost was through one on one.

It took until the 73rd minute before Fleet were able to equalise with a scrambled goal from a corner, Andy Darnton getting the final touch.

With only one minute of normal time remaining Jermaine Hendu broke into the box on the right and his low shot evaded both Martin and a defender to put Fleet ahead.

From the restart Frost's cross found sub Ryan Doyle inside the box, but his attempt at an equaliser was saved by Smith in the Fleet goal.

The home side could certainly hold their heads high at the final whistle - even though they'd failed to repeat their success in the clubs' previous meeting two seasons ago in the same competition!

Stocks grab low-key Cup win

Stockbridge beat M&T Awbridge 1-nil in an Andover Open Cup tie at the Rec on Tuesday night.

It was a low-key affair, with Stocks never really hitting their straps while lowly M&T seemed to revel in the opportunity of playing under the lights and put up a workmanlike, but impressive, performance.

The visitors defended in depth, denying Ryan Boare space to run into, and as they created little themselves it always looked as if one goal would settle it.

That came on the hour when Russell Vowles mis-hit a shot from deep. The M&T back-line stood like statues as the alert Boare skipped behind them and fired the bouncing ball first-time beneath Richard Blake's dive.

M&T's best chance to equalise came five minutes from time when they worked the ball well from right to left, but Ian Clarke was left with too tight an angle and shot into the side netting.

Central defenders Dean Savage and Tristan Burton were pick of the bunch for Stocks, who were on balance deserved winners.
