A CALL has gone out for more Hampshire artists to take part in a prestigious exhibition to help brain-damaged patients reach their full potential.

Organised by the Southampton-based Wayne Howard Trust, the exhibition will be held at the city's Harbour Lights cinema from March 28 to April 24.

Local artists have only days left to submit their work, which can be in the form of paintings, sketches or photographs, but not sculpture.

Submissions must be no bigger than one metre square and be ready to hang, with the artist's name, address and contact details on the back.

Organisers hope to feature the work of as many artists as possible during the four-week display, rotating pieces as necessary.

Judges will decide on a best in exhibition, which will be featured in the Daily Echo as well as on the charity's website.

The winning artist will be invited to hang their work at the newly-opened Wayne Howard Trust charity shop in Church Street, Shirley.

Submissions cost £3 each and can be made between 10am and 4pm this Saturday or between 5pm and 8pm on Monday.

Co-organiser Isobel Howard said it was vital artists rang her on 07986 352532 for details and did not take any work directly to Harbour Lights.

It is hoped most pieces will be sold, with 50 per cent of the proceeds going to the charity and 50 per cent to the artists, or the entire proceeds to the trust if the artist is willing.

All money raised will help the charity, set up by the family of Southampton motorbike crash victim Wayne Howard, now 36, who was left brain-damaged after a near fatal accident.

The family hopes eventually to raise enough cash to build a specialist neurological and rehabilitation clinic in Hampshire.
