ANNE Pearce will be gunning for a trophy treble during the finals of the Hampshire Women's Indoor BA Championships at Atherley on Sunday.

Competing in three finals on a day may sound demanding but it will be child's play for the indomitable Pearce, right, who won five finals in the Southampton and District WBA championships last summer - though admittedly they were spread over two days.

Pearce will begin her hat-trick quest at 8.30am with the singles, a trophy she already holds, before going for the triples and fours.

The Atherley bowler - holder of the Hampshire outdoor singles crown as well - edged through to the singles final 21-20 against her club, colleague Margaret Darkin.

As is the tradition, the final stages of the championships are played at the county president's club and, as Josie Munday of Atherley wears the chain of office, Pearce and Darkin were on their home green.

They were all square on 13-13 at 17 ends and, although Pearce edged 20-18 ahead, former Banister Park member Darkin levelled matters with two singles before Pearce won the final-end decider, leaving Darkin a semi-final loser for the second year in a row.

Pearce's opponent in the final is not known as the other semi-final between Pam Lambshead (Palmerston) and Hannah Burden (Longmeadow) was postponed until Saturday as Lambshead was unwell.

The pairs final will be an all-Victory affair after their entrants gained comfortable wins. Liz Compton and Carole Lloyd disposed of Ella Dibble and Jackie Mainwaring (Atherley) 22-13 while Rosemary Bailey and Sandy Pullin - both hot-foot from playing at Nottingham in the national championships - outgunned Eileen Read and Hazel Marke (Havant) 21-7.

Palmerston were assured of a place in the triples final after two of their teams were drawn against each other, Linda Abraham-Keyford, Sandy Moyse and Viv Bramble overcoming Daphne Walton, Janet Mudd and Ann Broadhurst 17-12.

Singles opponents Pearce and Darkin became triples teammates when joining forces with Wendy Line to outgun Jill Wells, Maureen Haskell and Janet Williamson (Riverside) 22-18.

The fours final will be an internal Atherley tussle after Jean Arnaud, at lead, combined with Pearce, Darkin and Line to sink Victory (Kath Patrick) 23-11 and Jenny Loftus, Ann Littlewood, Jean Terrell and Jackie Mainwaring polished off Longmeadow (Paula Rowntree) 25-16.
