POSING pooches and model mice - they are all heading down to a Southampton photographic studio to enter the Daily Echo's Pet Idol 2005 competition.
We have joined forces with Totton's Creature Comforts and Aquatic Centre to find the region's top pet.
Animal photographer Richard Harris is now hard at work at Reginald Harris Photography, in Hill Lane, snapping potential supermodels of the animal kingdom. Sittings, strictly by appointment, are going on until March 23.
Richard has already captured dogs, cats and even two rabbits on film. It can take him anything from five minutes to half an hour to snap the perfect pose.
Now pet owners who think their creature could be a star are urged to sign up for the free photo session.
Daily Echo promotions executive Jo Richardson said: "We are looking for a pet with a bit of character who stands out."
Once all the pictures have been taken they will be published in the Daily Echo on May 4 and readers will have the chance to vote for a final shortlist of winners. The lucky winner will be in line for a top prize of a framed print, a silver bowl, a certificate and a year's supply of pet food.
To enter the competition, simply complete the coupon printed on page 10 of today's Daily Echo and arrange your pet portrait with Richard Harris, by calling 023 8079 0951.
Entrants will be given a date to return to the studio to look at their photos and choose the one to be included in our full-colour supplement.
