Fareham torpedoed Brighton & Hove's South Premier League, Division 2 promotion dreams with a Craig Peel inspired 2-1 win.
And head coach Nigel Cook credited the win to his team's tactical aplomb.
"Our preparations were spot on," he beamed. "We cut out their aerial threat, denied their South African Craig Carolan space in midfield and defended quite immaculately."
The 45-goal Carolan came out second best in a gruelling individual duel with Fareham's Rob Church, although he was on hand to reverse-stick Brighton in front.
Fareham hit back with Mark Kidner creating a penalty corner strike by Peel, who will be saying his Bath Lane farewells after this weekend's games at Staines and Tulse Hill.
"We had to hang on in the second half and defended very well," Cook admitted.
Dave Cousins broke to open Brighton up and Peel gleefully smashed in Fareham's winner from a penalty corner.
