Sir.-I would like to thank a number of local drivers who stopped to offer their assistance after my road traffic accident last Friday, between Stratfield Saye and the A33 Swallowfield roundabout.
Even though I was unharmed and had assistance on the way, upwards of 30 people - representing a wide mixture of the population - were able to take a couple of minutes out of their day to check on my wellbeing, with offers of lifts, use of mobile phones, and even a cup of coffee from an out-of-town fisherman!
Despite many reports on the decline of community spirit, this was a clear example that not all is lost.
-P Wear, Chineham.
