THOUSANDS of club golfers across the UK are being offered the opportunity to have a bet on themselves following a unique collaboration between a golf tournament and a bookmaker.
The Hampshire-based International Pairs tournament has teamed up with Oxford-based River Racing to give every male competitor in this year's event the chance to have a flutter on themselves.
This is believed to be the first time club golfers have been able to get fixed odds on, and back their own ability. All 20,000 male entrants will be set at 1000/1 to win the tournament with a maximum bet of £5.
The competition is based around a simple concept. A club hosts an International Pairs event, which costs just £5 per person to enter, and the winning pair qualify for a semi-final on a championship course in Scotland - the official golfing destination of the year - with overnight accommodation and a welcome reception thrown in.
Those who make the cut at the semi-finals stay on in Scotland at the luxurious five-star St Andrews Bay resort for two rounds of televised championship golf with two nights in the fabulous hotel and a gala dinner included.
