Eastleigh'S popular B&Q 10k road race really came of age this year as around 1,200 competitors from 107 different clubs lined up for the 21st running of the annual event yesterday.
From modest beginnings, the Eastleigh run is now rated as the fourth most prestigious 10k road race in the country with more than £2,800 worth of prize money.
Belgrave Harriers Mark Miles stormed home to win in just over 29 minutes.
It was a debut Eastleigh run for Mark, who said: "It is a brilliant course. It is very quick and is getting a strong reputation. The event will go from strength to strength."
First woman home was 24-year-old Gemma Phillips from Kendal in Cumbria, who was also taking part in the Eastleigh event for the first time. She said: "It was really good. You get the hill out of the way to start with and then you're off. Hopefully, I will be back next year."
