POLICE are investigating a hit-and-run incident that happened as a woman tried to cross a road in Bitterne.

The 24-year-old woman had to be taken to hospital after being hit by a 4x4-type vehicle.

The woman was trying to cross at the junction of Little Lances Hill and Peartree Avenue in Bitterne just after 7.05pm on Saturday when she was struck by the car, which then drove off down Little Lances Hill.

The woman, from Shirley, was taken to Southampton General Hospital where she was treated for a neck injury along with cuts and bruises that were not thought to be life-threatening.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses - and the driver of the vehicle - to come forward.
