Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was left with head injuries and a broken wrist following an attack on Wednesday night.
The 20-year-old, from Stanmore, left the County Arms between 10pm and 10.30pm and began to walk in the Greenhill Road direction.
Police said he recalled seeing a man walk past possibly carrying a crowbar, but he couldn't remember anything other than regaining consciousness an hour and half later.
The victim went to the Royal Hampshire County Hospital where he was treated for a head injury and a suspected broken wrist.
The attacker, a white male with short dark hair, is believed to be wearing a dark blue padded jacket. Police want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident. Call PC Claire Warburton on 0845 045 45 45.
