A FIRST CLASS performance from big-hearted fundraisers at TNT Express Services saw the company deliver its biggest ever donation to a charity appeal for used stamps.
TNT employees from across the UK, including those from the express delivery giant's Southampton depot, have donated stamps to help swell the coffers of the Guide Dogs charity, contributing to the company's biggest donation yet - 75,000 stamps weighing 12.6 kilogrammes (more than two stone).
For the past five years, employees have been carefully saving stamps from thousands of letters sent to the company every month. The stamps, which are sold to foreign collectors, fund dog training, food, harnesses and other essential items.
Abigail Thorn, corporate relationships account manager for Guide Dogs, said: "I'd like to say a big thank you to TNT for their contribution to our fundraising efforts. Used postage stamps represent a vital part of our income, generating around £35,000 a year. It costs £10 a day to breed, train and support each guide dog. With some 5,000 guide dog owners needing a new dog on average every seven years, every penny counts."
