THE £1m revamped Shirley library is set to be launched today - but bosses still need help naming the special children's library ocean liner.
Youngsters were invited to see the ship, which doubles as a nautical bookshelf, in the children's library, when the library opened this morning.
However, it needs a creative, seafaring title to inspire children to go full steam ahead with their reading.
The young reader to come up with the best name for the ocean liner will receive a £25 book voucher and a return ferry ticket to the Isle of Wight for one adult and one child.
The prize winner will also be invited to a naming ceremony later this year.
Just pop into the library, in Redcar Street, Shirley, to pick up an entry form. The competition is open to anyone under 15, with a closing date of April 18.
The library has been revamped to coincide with the completion of the new-look Shirley precinct. It boasts a 42-inch plasma screen, comfy seating areas, free Internet access and e-mailing terminals.
It also has public meeting rooms available for hire and a homework area for youngsters.
The library was due to be opened by Southampton City Council's leisure boss Councillor Peter Wakeford and special guest Scooby Doo, who is starring in his own show at the city's Mayflower theatre.
