IT was a case of 'anything goes' for fundraisers across Hampshire who went Comic Relief crazy during yesterday's Red Nose Day.

Among those who took the 'Big Hair and Beyond' theme to heart were pupils at Harefield Infant School in Southampton, who held a wild hair day, and staff at Fareham based Serenity Holidays, who wore wacky wigs to work.

Southampton Airport workers jam-packed their staff restaurant to snap up doughnuts in aid of Comic Relief.

The doughnuts were donated at a cut price by Tesco in Millbrook and sold to the airport's 1,000 staff for 50p each, which was then doubled by the airport's fundraising arm - the BAA Communities Trust.

Event co-ordinator Linda Beadle said that money was also being collected from passengers flying in and out of the airport .

Police officers pedalled for pounds in Winchester yesterday when they took part in a Comic Relief eight-hour sponsored cycle.

The officers were on full display in the windows of Debenhams, cycling on static bikes - wearing full uniform and a red nose.

Sgt Annabel Berry, who organised the event, said: "Red Nose Day is a great cause and gives us the opportunity to help raise cash for those that need it most.

"Every penny raised on Red Nose Day goes towards helping people affected by poverty and social injustice to transform their lives, so it really is worth taking part."

Even four of the Solent's ferries got a face-lift for the occasion. Two Red Funnel ferries and two Hi-Speed Red Jet services, one of which is shown above, were adorned with specially-created red nose logos.

Red Funnel is collecting donations for Red Nose Day on the ferries and on the Hi-Speed services to and from the Isle of Wight.

Red Funnel took on-board donations and offered car passengers the opportunity to have their windscreen washed in return for a donation.

Shirley Anderson, Red Funnel personnel manager, said: "Red Funnel made a bigger effort than ever before to raise money for Comic Relief this year. It is such a fantastic cause. Our staff have got really involved in the various initiatives and our customers are being very generous. It's a real team effort."
