BAT Sports have managed to steer clear of meeting either of the competition favourites in the ECB Indoor Cricket Championship semi-finals at Lord's tomorrow.

They have been paired against Surrey club Worcester Park in the opening 12 noon semi-final, after which three-times winners Madisons (Northants) and Pudsey Congs, from Yorkshire, lock horns.

The winning teams will meet in the final at 3pm.

"On paper, we might seem to have got the right draw, but Worcester Park beat Southgate, Brighton & Hove and Canterbury to get to Lord's - and they are all very useful club sides," warned BAT's Damian Shirazi.

But the local Southern Electric Premier League side are buzzing after crushing everything in their way so far.

"We've bowled and fielded out of our skins in the three games against Swindon, Sudbrook and Barrington, releasing the pressure on the batsmen.

"Two of those sides - Swindon and Sudbrook - had won at Lord's in the past, so they were useful scalps," he added.

BAT, who name an unchanged six, will need all their fielding acrobatics at Lord's.

"We'll need to adapt to the larger playing area at Lord's but, as you'd expect, it's a wonderful place to play and I'm sure we'll rise to the occasion," he added.

Playing at Lord's is unlikely to hold any fears for Shirazi, who shattered the MCC Young Cricketers batting records during his summer on the groundstaff in 2003.

Ironically, Shirazi was having a warm up for BAT's big day at Lord's today.

He was skippering the Southampton Institute side in the BUSA Indoor Championships - a tournament which pitched the local students against UCCE teams from Bradford & Leeds, Cardiff and Durham.

BAT will be hoping to become the second Hampshire side to lift the ECB indoor crown.

Winchester KS won it several years ago and were twice beaten finalists, while Havant also reached Lord's in the mid-1990s.

BAT are running a coach to Lords, leaving Southern Gardens at 8.30am. For further information telephone 023 8086 2143.
