FLARES, ABOVE BAR STREET, SOUTHAMPTON

FLARES is unique compared to any other nightclub in Southampton. Why? It's the only nightclub dedicated to the 1970s.

The music and the lay-out are dedicated to the decade and it seems that the bar staff even live and breathe that retro era.

When you enter Flares, you are immediately immersed into a parallel world of disco and platform heels. After paying the initial entry fee, which is about £4 to £5 depending on what night you go, Flares takes you back to the time when your parents were hip and everything was funky.

Hits such as Blame it on the Boogie by The Jackson 5 and Disco Inferno by Tina Turner are played to party-goers of various ages so don't expect to find any of the dance-hits that fill up most club floors nowadays.

Flares is popular with everyone, especially on Saturday nights when most of town seems to be queuing up there!

With a big dance floor in the middle of the building and a long bar taking residence on the right-hand side, the dance floor is complete with revolving disco-ball, which really adds to the 70s buzz.

There is also a reasonable enough amount of seating around the club for people who just want to take it easy and enjoy the atmosphere rather than boogying the night away.

I recommend Flares to anyone who is into music from the 70s and to people who just want a really good night out. Flares will leave you with a smile on your face and possibly an Afro-wig and some shades at the end of the night. Based in the middle of the city centre, Flares is in an ideal location for party-goers up for a great laugh.
