THE young Einsteins of Marchwood Junior school agree with Ofsted inspectors that science is one of their school's top strengths.

Pupils celebrated a successful Oftsed inspection by gathering in the school's dedicated science hut which has played a vital part in lessons.

National Curriculum test results in science were well above average when compared with similar schools

Overall the quality of education at the school was judged to be "satisfactory" and the school's caring ethos was praised. Inspectors declared that there is room for improvement in areas including maths and writing but the school is already working to tackle these issues.

The report said: "Achievement in science and ICT is good and standards are above average. Standards in other subjects are broadly in line with expectations."

It added: "Since the last inspection, standards in English have declined but are now showing improvement. Standards in mathematics have declined and are not as high as they should be."

Head teacher Stephen Bassett said: "The inspectors have positively recognised all the aspects of the school of which we are very proud. The report helpfully and usefully endorses the aspects for future development which we as a school through our own self evaluation, prior to the inspection, had already identified."

Mr Bassett added: "Staff, governors, parents and organisations like the parish council, have supported us and work with us to make Marchwood Junior School a school of which we are all very proud."
