A FAREHAM police officer has been named Hampshire Constabulary Probationer of the Year 2004 after two years of exemplary service.
PC Richard Stroud, pictured, was presented with a certificate by Home Secretary Charles Clarke after being unanimously selected for the award.
A panel of judges heard from shift Sgt Jeremy Tremellen of PC Stroud's consistent high standards, professional commitment, proactive ability and team- working skills.
Sgt Tremellen described PC Stroud as the most dynamic probationer he had seen during his police career spanning more than 15 years.
PC Stroud has arrested 75 suspects for various crimes, including perverting the court of justice, kidnapping, supply of drugs, burglary and assault, during his probationary period.
Solent East Commander, Supt Graham Haycock, said: "Richard is an outstanding example of a young PC who has worked hard to learn as much about policing as he possibly can in such a short space of time.
"His commitment to the people who live and work within our Solent East policing area
has been immense and his enthusiasm is infectious."
Solent East's top probationer fought off stiff competition from nine other basic command units in Hampshire.
PC Stroud said "I really enjoy being in the police force - it's great to work in such a close-knit team and make the difference to so many peoples' lives."
