AN action line set up to tackle antisocial behaviour in Southampton has received almost 100 calls in its first two weeks.

The 'It's Your Call' action line was set up in the city after Southampton was chosen as one of 25 areas around the country to trial the idea.

The aim is to make it easier to report antisocial behaviour and to access council services that can tackle problems like nuisance neighbours, vandalism and low-level crime.

Residents can call the hotline number and report any antisocial behaviour, which can then be dealt with by the appropriate service, including city patrol officers, neighbourhood wardens, environmental health officers or even the emergency services.

Since the action line was launched in February, 91

calls have been made by residents.

Of those, 27 have been for rowdy behaviour and 26 for criminal damage, litter and rubbish nuisance. The remainder were for miscellaneous individual incidents.

The figures also show that residents living in the

area known as the West Neighbourhood Partnership, which includes Coxford, Millbrook, Redbridge and Shirley, were using the service most, with 38 calls out of the 91 received being made from homes within those wards.

Roger Honey, head of community safety for Southampton City Council, said the initial results were encouraging.

He said: "The number of calls reported in the West Neigh-bourhood Partnership area does not necessarily mean that there is a specific problem there but that perhaps other areas in the city need to be made more aware that this service is available to them and that they can use it."
