SAINTS can expect to face a Manchester United backlash at St Mary's on Saturday after the FA Cup holders crashed out of Europe last night.

The FA Cup is United's last realistic chance of ending the season with a major trophy after losing 1-0 in Milan to exit the Champions League at the first knock-out stage 2-0 on aggregate.

Only the injured Gary Neville is likely to miss out at St Mary's, with Ryan Giggs expected to play despite suffering a broken nose last night.

Wes Brown is expected to continue at right-back against Saints with Mikael Silvestre and Rio Ferdinand in the centre of defence and Gabriel Heinze at left-back.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was left to rue missed chances last night.

Hernan Crespo's second half header gave Milan a 2-0 aggregate victory to ensure the Red Devils failed to reach the quarter-finals for the second successive season.

Ferguson said: "If you look at the two games we had six good chances and we didn't take any of them.

"The margins at this level are very fine and that is what has decided the tie overall.

"Sometimes you can be too critical. I have no complaints about the way my team played or the way they adapted the game - but we just didn't get the goal that could have changed the game."
