Love Shack, The Mayflower, Southampton
TAKE two hugely successful pop stars and . . . erm . . . one not so successful one.
Sprinkle generously with retro dance floor tunes, wow-factor ballads and plenty of good-looking dancers and top with dashings of tongue-in-cheek humour. Cook for just under two hours before dusting with one big, hand-clapping encore.
Hey presto! You have a laugh-a-minute, pop-packed musical that will leave both children and adults with smiles on their faces.
Love Shack, starring S Club 7 star Jon Lee, Steps beauty Faye Tozer and Noel Sullivan from HearSay (remember them?), is a no-nonsense, fun show bursting with great pop songs and cheeky gags.
Itching with innuendo, less-liberal theatregoers might blush at some of the jokes, but if you like your musicals simple and full of laughs then Love Shack is a must.
The story centres on a young engaged couple on their stag and hen nights. Will their relationship survive when one of them drunkenly strays away?
Love Shack isn't just another lame excuse to lump a load of popular songs together with a storyline as limp as a badly dunked digestive. It's a simple, well-produced musical that will give hope to forgotten pop stars around the country looking for a new career.
Love Shack runs until Saturday. Tickets: £14.50. Box office: 023 8071 1811.
