HARRY REDKNAPP believes he has pulled off a major coup with the signing of striker Henri Camara.
The Senegalese ace has netted four goals in five starts plus two as a sub since arriving at St Mary's on the final day of the January transfer window.
Camara, who is on loan until the end of the season from Wolves after an unhappy spell with Celtic, has certainly pushed himself into the shop window with a series of superb displays.
"Camara is a terrific loan," said the Saints boss. "There are now about 16 other managers in the Premier League wishing they'd taken him.
"A few other people made enquiries for him but I took a chance, brought him here and he's been brilliant."
Camara recently scored twice in a tsunami benefit match at Barcelona, sparking speculation in Spain that Espanyol could be ready to move for him in the summer.
Saints' weekend win against Spurs has lifted the club to within two points of fourth bottom Crystal Palace and Redknapp has cited Camara's form as the main reason for his renwed optimism that his side can avoid the drop.
Saints' next league match is at Middlesbrough on Sunday week and Redknapp, whose men have only claimed three away draws all season in the Premiership, said: "I feel we can win away from home.
"We have a better balance to the team and that gives us a far better chance.
"What you need away is to be a threat.
"Last year at Portsmouth I had Yakubu up front on his own and he had pace, but it wasn't until I signed Lua Lua that we had two up front.
"You need pace away from home and if you have no pace it's very hard to hurt teams.
"Camara's the only player at the club with pace, and if you have pace then you can nick teams away with it."
The Camara-Peter Crouch partnership has so far been a success - leaving Kevin Phillips, the top scorer before his injury, on the bench as a result.
"Having a big man and a little quick man up front is a good balance, and Camara is so strong as well that he's hard to knock off the ball," Redknapp continued.
"Kevin Phillips is a top player and when he got injured I thought I'd never replace him, but now Kevin's back and having to wait for his chance because Camara's doing well."
Saints now turn their attentions to Saturday's FA Cup quarter-final clash with Manchester United at St Mary's.
They have doubts over Claus Lundekvam (ankle), Rory Delap (ankle), Andreas Jakobsson (back) and Graeme Le Saux (Achilles), but all four could be fit along with Antti Niemi, who is training after his cartilage op.
Redknapp added: "The three points against Tottenham on Saturday was more important to us than the Cup match but we will be taking it very seriously."
