OLDER members of Southampton's Ice Dance and Figure Skating Club will be as warm as toast when they take part in competitions in the future - thanks to a prize-winning performance in a national competition for the over-60s.
Seven regular ice skaters at the club - aged between 60 and 78 - scooped £100 from electricity giant Powergen after winning the firm's Stay Warm for the Over-60s competition.
Their entry for ideas to keep older people warm in the winter - taking up ice skating - warmed judges' hearts and they ended up buying fleeces dubbed with the club's logo with their cash.
The seven all take part in national skating competitions across Britain and regularly win prizes.
Club spokeswoman Eileen Long said: "Most older people seem to do bowls but we all still skate."
