ENJOY a free weekend at a premier bike show while your bike (I hope) earns money.
Not a dot-com sign tied to a lamppost, but what's on offer to entrants in the Carole Nash "Best in Show" competition at the BMF show held on the East of England Showground in Peterborough over the weekend of May 21-22.
Entering a bike into the Carole Nash "Best in Show" competition with a total of £2,600 and a year's insurance to be won is not only free but entitles entrants to two tickets for the weekend, so you can be quids in from the start.
There are seven classes with £300 prize money each and the winners qualify for the overall Best in Show with a further £400 and a year's free insurance to be won, with £100 awarded to runner-up best overall.
So by entering a free competition some lucky owner will go home with £700 and a year off from paying insurance subscriptions. Oh, and they get to enjoy one of the biggest shows in the country while the bike is parked up.
Classes are defined as:
Vintage, solos and combos up to 1945.
Classic, solos and combos from 1946 to 1985.
Modern, solos and combos from 1986 to present day.
Custom/Streetfighter, built up to present day.
Trike/outfit, three wheelers and combos manufactured or built up to present day.
Performance (excepting competition), Solos modified for performance up to present day.
Special of the Year, unique solo motorcycles built from components originating on different machines, one-off parts, or any combination of parts.
Full rules, regulations and entry forms are on the British Motorcyclists Federation website, www.bmf.co.uk, just follow the links to events.
Get your entries in by April 22.
In case there are some out there that don't know about the BMF Show or think Peterborough is too far to bother with, here are a few facts.
Insurance giants Carole Nash like to put something back into the bike world and sponsor the show as well as the Best in Show competition.
The show regularly attracts more than 85,000 people and about 900 trade stands with loads of bargains on offer as well as a massive display of club stands, and rightly deserves the claim of being "Europe's Big One".
Shopping, bike viewing and arena displays will keep visitors entertained for the weekend, not just one day.
It's big, well massive to be more accurate, but still retains a relaxed, family friendly atmosphere. One tip, take the family to carry all the purchases leaving your hands free for an ice cream.
I've been going for years and it's like visiting a town made up of bikes and bike people.
A new convenience has been added for BMF members taking advantage of the camping facilities - "no kit" camping.
Through an arrangement with Tangerine Fields, a pitched tent with optional sleeping bag and pillow can be hired for the weekend. All the kit is new and the highest quality.
Public entry to the show, camping not included is £14, BMF members £12 (£2 off for advanced booking), senior citizens £6 and under-14 year olds free.
All the details will be found on that website www.bmf.co.uk
