FOR the first time in weeks, Harry Redknapp believes the fight for the drop might not just be between the bottom four.

Saints recorded only their fourth league win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Spurs to close the gap on fourth bottom Crystal Palace to just two points.

Redknapp said: "I have said all along there were only four teams in it, but maybe now there could be one or two others getting sucked into it.

"There will be one or two other teams looking over their shoulders.

"The other week we were thinking that 34 or 35 points might be enough, but you never know.

"I've seen teams at the bottom have runs before. West Ham had a terrific run a while back, but then so did all the other teams around the bottom and they ended up going down with 42 points.

"You never know."

Nigel Quashie's first goal for the club early in the second half was enough to give Saints victory.

They can now look forward to a break from Premiership pressures when they host holders Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter-finals next weekend.

"It's been a good week all round," added Redknapp. "We're in good form, playing well and working hard.

"I've seen a massive change in the last five or six weeks in the team and the atmosphere in the dressing room.

"We have some decent players here who can make a difference.

"I thought six weeks ago we had no chance. Not a prayer.

"But then the transfer window came and we brought in five players and it's made a big difference to us.

"The lads who were here already feel the new players have made a difference as well."
