PAUL SMITH gave Harry Redknapp a potential selection headache with a superb display in Saints' win over Tottenham.
Antti Niemi should be available again following minor knee surgery for Saturday's FA Cup tie against Manchester United.
But Smith has impressed in recent weeks.
The ex-Brentford shot-stopper was forced into action inside the first minute on Saturday to deny Mido and the 25-year-old made a strong of fabulous saves to deny England striker Jermain Defoe.
"It was nice to get a save out of the way early on, but you just have to concentrate for 90 minutes," said Smith.
"I was pleased with my performance and to get the three points which we thoroughly deserved."
In their previous four visits to St Mary's, Tottenham had never scored but Smith, pictured above, was keen to share the praise for maintaining that record.
He said: "I was pleased with my performance and to get a clean sheet, especially at home, was great - but the most important thing was three points.
"We defended from the front, but on top of that the back four were superb.
"They defended well, they got blocks in, they made tackles and won headers and saved me from making even more saves.
"We had been playing well enough in the past few games but we hadn't really won enough, so it was important to get that win and hopefully we can build on that.
"We are unbeaten in six now and that's positive. We just need to keep that form going.
"There was never any doubt among the lads recently. We knew we were playing well enough but we just seemed to be getting draws instead of winning.
"We knew that a win was always going to come.
"That is one for the fans. It hasn't been the best of seasons for them, but hopefully they enjoyed that win and hopefully they can enjoy a few more soon.
"The main thing is we haven't been losing - and the three points here is a massive bonus."
